NXT

NXT exists to help emerging artists discover and reach their full potential. We do this by creating free spaces, programs, and resource for development.

  • Our core offering consists of programmes, pathways and spaces that foster authenticity, collaboration and self reflection. This includes a weekly space focusing on songwriting, production and performance, an 8 week artist development programme that takes 6 emerging acts on a journey of discovery from ‘story to showcase’ and the facilitation of regular networking opportunities where we create space for young artists to connect and hear from industry professionals.

  • I (Kirsty) have since my earliest memory been a huge fan of music and entertainment. This led me to begin a creative career in music, subsequently working for some of the biggest pop acts in the industry.

Rocky has been writing/releasing music for the past 15 years. He's released on major and independent labels but as a young artist it was rare that anyone invested in him as a human. We both came from different sides but both found the same tensions. What is unique about this industry is the person is also the product and lots of people want a piece! We found that if an artist was not clear about who they were/what they were trying to achieve the risk was that others would project their own vision.

Later we both found ourselves in the church community amongst creatives and young people. We met more creatives who had encountered the same issues. This left us bigger questions around the role of the Church, and how best we could serve. In response to this, we created NXT.

  • Who you are and what you create is not entirely separate. If the artist does not have a clear vision and identity they will get used or lose themselves. Time and time again this lack of care and value placed on living out of authenticity leads to mental health issues, identity crisis and issues of faith. Stats increasingly show that adolescent suicide rates are higher than they have ever been with predominately young people questioning their purpose and their identity more than ever.

  • Young artists are going to shape the future of the industry. If we can help them shape and understand their identity and vision in their formative years then they will have greater success in finding their true voice, protecting their mental health and shaping culture. Our USP is in methodology that seeks to create a safe place that fosters self reflection and authenticity, pose questions around deeper motivations, goals and boundaries, and to explore how these connect to the works we create.
